How To Improve Mental Clarity

My key fundamentals to improve my mental clarity, as the importance it plays on your day to day life is immeasurable

7/19/2024

Having a strong mental performance during the day is crucial, to all aspects of your life from work to friendships to purpose to health. This is why I now implement key fundamentals to ensure I am as clear as I can be, and that I perform mentally to the best of my ability.

The benefits I have found focusing on mental clarity

  • Ability to focus and perform tasks at work to a higher level

  • Increased productivity and workload

  • Embracing the day more, being in touch with what's going on around me and being able to apply myself to situations better

  • Improved confidence knowing I am going to perform

  • Higher motivation to workout, engage in conversations and learn new things

  • Happier mood benefitting relationships and friendships

My key fundamentals to improving mental clarity

Morning workout/movement

My non-negotiable each morning is my workout, or at least 30 minutes of movement getting in some steps and stretching. This wakes me up, releases my endorphins, gets the blood pumping around the body and brain, and puts me in an amazing mood for the day.

If I don't get this in first thing, it throws me off, I think I have to get it in at some point, I feel lazy as I decided to stay in bed instead of getting up and getting after it.

Reducing alcohol

I have already touched on this in a previous blog, but this is the biggest factor to improve mental clarity for me, I've never been able to perform the next day after having a few drinks. I feel fresh, clear and almost a small win that I didn't have a drink the night before (which sounds a bit dramatic as I hardly drink now but you know what I mean). It also effects your body, dehydrated for example and this in turn effects your mind.

Improving sleep

Arguably one of the hottest health topics right now is sleep, and just how important the studies are showing that it is (an entire blog to come on this). Long gone is the saying 'I'll sleep when I'm dead', as to really live your life to the full, you need to be energized, focused and in a good mood which is exactly what good sleep does to you.

Fasting

This one doesn't make sense, well it does, but it also doesn't as we know food gives us energy. However what I have found with fasting till around 1pm, is that I get hungry at 10am, surpress the urge to eat and then those 3 hours I'm just like laser focused, high energy and not distracted at all. This is because your body has a decrease in insulin, an increase in glucagon and with your body in a fat burning mode, it leads to a greater sense of alertness and focus.

Not checking your phone as soon as you get up

You really have to give this one a go as it's amazing the difference it makes. There is a very scientific explanation, but to keep it simple on how it makes me feel, I am a lot less distracted and have no urge to pick up my phone but get some hard tasks done quickly and efficiently. I notice it impacts how the rest of my day unfolds too, a lot less phone time, a lot more time spent on being productive, in a good mood and in general less going on in the brain as you haven't scrolled through 100 stories.

Being organized

This is vital to stop your mind racing, so a few key steps that I do are keeping my living space/room tidy so I know where everything is and it's another thing to worry about less. Making a to-do-list in the morning to know exactly where my efforts will lie today, and also making one at night so I'm not in bed thinking have I forgotten something or what do I have to do tomorrow.
